Taking and Making: June 23

Today, I took in:

the first third of Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel — loving it so far, really beautiful novel about what the world might be like after a pandemic, and bonus, it’s set largely in Michigan

I made:

a trip to the seaside, reading my book and eating an ice cream on the pebbled beach of Brighton

happy dance moves at Casablanca Jazz Club as a killer live band took me into the wee hours

Taking and Making: June 22

Today, I took in:

Real Museums of Memphis” by Zandria Felice Robinson — a stunning read, check it out

The Burning Girl by Claire Messud — yes, a whole novel in one day, what a good day it’s been

Poirot: Five Little Pigs

I made:

a short walk around Kennington Park, learning about how cool swifts are (they can fly up to 70mph! when they’re juveniles they fly for four years straight, sleeping while flying!) and what conservation groups are doing to rebuild their numbers in Britain
