Half a dozen jokes start with how many castles there are in the British Isles, and how easy it is to stumble over one on your way to the grocery store. When my friend Liz and I took a mini road trip to Wales in May, we found this to be entirely true. We took advantage of it and did some castleing in passing, making very minor detours to peek at centuries-old stone edifices a few miles off the beaten path.
Here are the drive-by castles of our Welsh adventure:
Ted and I spent three weeks on a driving trip in Wales and loved it. Ted is a Father Cadfael fan so we made a pilgrimage to Shrewsbury (SP???)Cathedral as well. Thanks for recalling beautiful memories. Love, Dana and Ted Calhoon
Oh how was Shrewsbury? Did they have Cadfael info up for visitors?
Wait … why does the sheep have a blue stain?
I think it’s a type of branding? Or she got up to some mischief in the paint shed.
It is definitely a branding thing. Sheep (and other random livestock in the national parks anyway) kind of get to roam in the UK so it is a way to pick apart your flock when shearing time comes. It is however no less disturbing nor the fact that sheep sort of wonder around campsites in Wales.
