Off to Laos

Hello dearest fellow travelers! I hope you’ve had a good week and have exciting/relaxing/warm plans for the weekend. This is a bit of a cheat of a post, since it’ll be about two lines long. It’s 7am and I’m headed to the bus station in Chiang Rai right now. I hpoe to be in Laos by 11! And then it’s a matter of luck and timing to see if I get on the slow boat to Luang Prabang today or tomorrow. It’s a two-day trip on the boat, with an overnight break in Pak Beng, and then I’ll be in the World Heritage town of Luang Prabang. New countries, new adventures!

  1. Well, now, Lisa,

I wonder how many other people you had running to Google maps (or other ones!) to figure out where Chiang Rai, Luang Prabang, and Pak Beng were, and why it took two days to get from LB to PB when it was going to take you four hours to get from Chiang Rai to “Laos”!

It doesn’t help that I missed (while on the road and without internet for several days) and didn’t catch up your information about being with the elephants and that’s why there were New Zealand posts when that’s not where you were! Mystery less so, a bit.

What an incredible journey this is! Thank you, as ever, for including us in it. Looking forward to stories From The Boat.

    In Peace,

    Irene

    • Yep, many of the posts continue to be behind the actual schedule I’m on. We’re just barely getting to 2013 in terms of the chronology of the trip–moving down to the South Island of New Zealand–even though I’m in Laos. I just can’t get it done in real time and still have time to enjoy where I am at the moment.

    • I’m writing up notes on the week with the elephants right now, and I’m waiting on some good photos from other people in my volunteer group, and then trust me, it will be a solid week of elephant posts!
